Chair mats are an office floor's best friend.
Whether you work from home or your office has hundreds of chairs, the wheels (known as casters) cause a great deal of damage to unprotected floors. As well as damaging the floor, wheeling around uneven floors causes unnecessary strain on your back that can get painful. Most office chair mats are transparent, so you will barely notice they are there. You can save your back, protect your floors and maintain the style of the room. We also have a unique range of carpeted chair mats, so your feet can rest on a plush, absorbent surface if that suits your space. All Matshop's heavy-duty chair mats are covered by an exclusive 12-year warranty. This is the longest warranty in the industry!
The main distinguisher for chair mats is the type of floor you have in your space. If you have carpet you need a chair mat with grippers, to stop the mat from sliding around. Grippers are tiny bumps on the underside of your chair mat that dig into the carpet pile and hold the mat in place. These small grippers are designed for the specific carpet type and will not damage the carpet. If you have hard floors, you don’t need grippers.
Below is a step by step guide to assist in making this task easy:
Measure the thickness of the carpet and underlay using a long drawing pin (or straighten the end of a paper clip). Insert the straight end into the carpet and through the underlay until it hits the solid surface below the underlay. (Some carpets have a tightly woven backing so you may have to wiggle the paper clip or pin gently to force it through).
When the pin or paperclip hits the hard subfloor below, grip it with your index finger and thumb right at the highest point of the carpet. Be careful not to press down as this will give you a false reading.
Remove the paper clip or pin from the carpet and measure from the end to your fingers. This will be the total height of your carpet and this measurement can be used when buying your Matshop chair mats.
Note: Be sure to include the underlay in your measurement, most (99.9%) domestic homes have a 10mm underlay and will fall into the thick pile category
Replacing floors is very expensive, but spending a little more on a super sturdy chair mat will ultimately save you money in the long run. Your floors deserve great quality protection. Our heavy-duty chair mats are so durable that we can guarantee their lifetime for at least 12 years. They are extremely strong and sturdy enough for heavy people.
Standard sized chair mats sit right under each chair, and custom sized ones can be fitted to any area. For help creating the ideal working environment, reach out to one of the team or check out this article on arranging your working area for maximum productivity.
